Amelia Coburn

BBC Folk Awards Finalist, UKE Magazine Breakthrough Artist winner and, most recently, English Folk Expo mentee, Amelia is a truly captivating solo performer who bears comparisons to Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and Nick Drake with beguiling original folk and jazz influenced songs (many of which have received national airplay on 6music, BBC Radio 2 and RTE1 in Ireland – she can count Mark Radcliffe and Tom Robinson as big fans) who has performed at Cambridge Folk Festival, Costa Del Folk in Ibiza, Grand Northern Ukulele Festival and numerous other events including sell out solo shows in her native North East and elsewhere as well as supporting a diverse range of artists including Trials of Cato, The Wedding Present, Steve Harley and the late folk legend Vin Garbutt. Amelia is fast establishing herself as a truly distinctive voice not to be missed.

Having started 2023 with an international appearance in Finland, following on from a successful year on the English Folk Expo mentoring scheme which saw her perform, again, at Cambridge Folk Festival, Focus Wales and in her own right across the UK with a sold out debut solo tour Amelia thrives on the inspiration that travel brings her. Many of her exquisite original compositions stem from people and places she has discovered during and after her language studies.

Amelia’s affinity with the sea and love of folk music along with an open-minded attitude to songwriting and arrangements has led to Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral, Michael Head and The Elastic Band, Brooke Bentham, Saint Saviour) being an unexpected but perfect choice when looking for a producer for her upcoming debut studio album. His own heartfelt, stripped back solo work struck a chord with her too as she has increasingly explored her own existence, mortality and emotional connections in more recent work such as on The Ebb and The Flow EP released last year which received national radio play and plaudits all over.
